Up Host Appliication Prior MWCs MWC Contract SMAI Plan for MWC

Information needed for Masters World Championships games determination

The following information will be used to make a determination as to which games will be awarded the 2008 Masters World Championship competition.  Please refer to the SMAI MWC sanctioning plan for required elements.  Organizations wishing to host the games should gather this information and submit it to Bill Scruggs, Executive Director of SMAI, via email at   mtnbilly{at}hughes{dot}net

Festivals in their development of a proposal to host the MWC should look carefully at the SMAI Sanctioning Plan and determine how they are going to meet all the requirements described therein.  The proposal should go over all the details of these plans.  It should also contain the information requested below.

  1. What date are the games?
  2. Are the games one day or two days?
  3. How many rooms are available locally (near the games site) to accommodate the expected number of athletes and their families for the games?  What are the typical room costs?
  4. What are the nearest arrival cities (i.e., large airport cities) and what transportation is available to the games city from the arrival cities?  What transportation is available from local accommodations to the game’s field?
  5. What tourist sights are located near the games city?
  6. What is the normal weather for the area at the time of the games?
  7. What rules will be used for the games and how many qualified judges are available locally (we sometimes have judges who wish to travel to the games for the experience to supplement the local supply)?
  8. What implements and weights are available locally?  How many and which events do you normally have and how many are you willing to have (at least 8)?  (see accompanying description of previous MWCs)
  9. Can you provide sizes of cabers to accommodate a wide range of abilities from the 40-year-old to the 70+ athlete as well as women masters.
  10. How large is the field and how many athletes have you had in the past (the maximum)?
  11. Can you start competition early (9:00 am) to accommodate the number of athletes’ classes and events?
  12. What would you need to charge as an entry fee to athletes?
  13. Any other items you feel we should know about your games which would help in our decision between those games we are considering for the MWC.
