Rules governing the 2008 MWC competition:

The 2008 MWC competition will be governed by the rules of the US Athletic Directors organization.  These are the same rules used last year in Kansas.  The rules, whether to allow the WOB spin and whether to contest the sheaf toss are all local festival decisions.
The sheaf toss will be contested.  No spinning will be allowed on WOB.

Masters’ World Championships -  Some General Rules

To be eligible for entry, an athlete must have competed in at least five sanctioned (see schedule page) highland games within the twelve month period preceding the World Championship competition.  A waiver may be granted to Scottish athletes who normally compete on a regular basis but cannot meet this requirement this year.  The waiver must be requested from SMAI well in advance.   Athletes who have placed in the top six at a prior MWC automatically qualify for entry.
All entries must be accompanied by the entry fee.  No Phone entries will be accepted.
Notification of entry receipt will be a listing of athlete's name on Who's Coming page of this web site.
Returned checks DO NOT constitute an entry.  The Games Committee will add a collection fee to the amount of each returned check.
All contestants must wear kilt and kilt stockings (with flashings) and games t-shirt at all times on the field.  No kilts will be provided.
Athlete check-in will take place at the field between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. on the day of competition.
Rules of competition will be those published by USAD rules.
If there is a dispute, the decision of the judges and games committee will be final.
No children under the age of 12 on the field at any time.  Family members are only allowed into the athletic area (but not on the field) after they have signed a waiver and must be wearing Scottish attire (kilt, etc.)
Safety is everyone’s responsibility but the judge’s decision will be final in determining what constitutes safe technique in a throw.
Implements used in competition will be those furnished by the games committee.
