Salem, New Hampshire USA
Member of Distinction

Master’s Phenomenon

Bill went to the New Hampshire Highland Games at Loon Mountain as a spectator in 1987, and began competing in 1989 at the age of 48.  There being no Masters division in local games at the time, Bill competed as an amateur, and was undefeated competing in New England in 1991 - at the age of 50.

Competing for the first time in the Master’s World Championships in 2004, Bill won the 60-64 age group convincingly.  In 2005, he was runner-up, finishing 1 point behind the eventual winner while struggling with a serious illness.  Soon afterward, a devastating work injury ended his brilliant athletic career.

The holder of multiple world records years after his retirement, several (if not all) are likely to stand for years to come.  Perhaps his most enduring performances were set in the 60-64 age group, where as of this writing (April, 2011) he still holds 5 World Records.
